Speedo and Tach hookups
Speedo and Tach hookups I was wondering if I could hook up an electro Speedo and Tach gauges from Auto meter. Using the wires that lead to the instrument cluster, froom a 2000 trans am Wiring harness. Or will I have to go off the VSS directly and go off one of the ignition coils, and which wire do I then use. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Speedo and Tach hookups Pin 10 (white wire) on the PCM red connector is engine speed signal, use 4-cyl mode for the tach. I'm showing Pin 50 (Dk Grn/WHT) on the PCM red connector as Vehicle speed sensor output, I've never had to do a aftermarket electric speedo so hopefully that is what you need. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Re: Speedo and Tach hookups I am using the autometer speedo as well. Their tech website says that you must use the signal from the VSS directly from the transmission. It is an ac sine wave. The signal from the PCM is a dc square wave (4000 pulses per mile)that will not work with the autometer speedo. I have not wired it up yet so I can't tell you the colors yet. When I do I will post it.
