Default Coolant bypass question?

Just found this great site. Nice to see im not the only one to put an ls1 in a first gen camaro. Anyway my question is im bypassing the TB coolant lines. Has anyone ran the coolant from the heads (drivers side behind TB) directly to the water pump (tap in). Can this be done? Or do you have to go to the radiator. Im not sure due to not having any lines when purchasing the ls1. Any help appreciated. 69 camaro, 98 ls1, 6 speed

I'm pretty sure those tubes coming off of the heads are return lines and need to go back into the radiator to cool off. Tapping them into the water pump might pressurize them and force them to not allow coolant to return from them.

BTW, I'm considering selling my car to build a 69 with an LS1/T56 in it also <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

All you need to do is get a nipple just like the one that comes off the radiator now (the one by the cap that goes to your catch can) brazed/soldered on. Just attach it below the cap if you put it on the neck. If you end up getting an aftermarket radiator check with them as you might be able to get them to add one. (I'm getting mine from Ron Davis and they will build them to fit you stock location and let you specify where to put hose ends and what size).

I got my radiator from Be Cool and I had them put an -an fitting on it, instead of a nipple, for the coolant bypass so I could use hose ends and braided hose. Radiator pic

Oh, so, am I a fool to be running mine back into the radiator hose then??

My radiator has plastic tanks. Not really excited about drilling and tapping that.
