Decisions ...I need some help
Thanks
Mike
Basically the conversion will cost me a total of say 15k. 10k of that going to engine and tranny the rest going to convert the rest of the car.
Mine had 34K miles and had some damage from the wreck it was in. Needed 2 coils, a water pump, new intake (MAP fitting was broken and you can't get that separately). The guy started it up for me when I picked it up - pretty wild to see a motor crank over just sitting on a shop floor.
You could also try your local salvage yards.
The accessory mounting for some swaps can be tricky. The C5 and FBody brackets are totally different. Also, the fuel rails are different betw. '00 and older Fbody vs. C5. I think they're the same after that. Obviously the transmissions are totally different as well.
If you wanted to be crazy, you could get a 6.0 from a truck...

<strong> I plan on running the stock internals, with a single turbo or supercharger. It seems to be the cheapest way to make big hp. I am also a big fan of forced induction. Used to have a single turbo 3rd gen. Since my LS1 is going in a ulitma kit car I am going with an aftermarket ecu and harness. Probably a tecIII or FAST unit. I can't see spending 500-1000 dollars making a stock computer work as a stand alone. Maybe a LS1 computer is different but I find it hard to belive a factory computer is that tunable.

Where in Bmore are you at. I would Love to check out the ultima. I live about 10 minutes outside 695. I was thinking about a ultima build but i would like to see someone do one first then see how well they are built and a final $$$ total.
They are badass but I dont want to hit 50k for it all said and done.
Mike
Not going over 50K would be very hard. From the numbers I have run. A bare minimum build is going to run around 55K. The factory says you can build one for around 60K. I think realistically I am looking at about 65K. I am about 43K into now and the list of parts I still need is a mile long.

The factory lists and sells every part you need for the car. It's just misleading because they have steps 1-17 listed on their site for about 28K. They don't really point out that you need 75% of what they call accessories http://www.ultimasports.co.uk/usa/pricesc.html
I have a very detailed list of my running costs on my web site www.markkoch.net
We will have to meet in June when you get the rx7 running. Hopefully by then I'll have my car more complete and looking more like a car.
