Default Good info about Autometer guages

Just figured I'd share some info with you guys. I found out that you can use an electric sending unit Water temp guage (autometer) with the factory temp sender (98 only). Make sure you use the wire coming out of the sender that DOES NOT go to the computer, use the one that goes to the factory guage.
I have verified the temp with EFI LIVE and the reading are correct.

Also, for oil pressure you can tap the 2 bolt flange with 1/8 npt tap and use it for your oil pressure guage, or Oil temp guage.

That is great info. Why do you think it's 98 only?

well if you dont have a 98, you can always install a 98 temp sender and replacement connector in the passenger head (normally there's a plug there) and use it. i have a 98Z and had to have a metric to pipe adapter made in order to install the autometer sender. i then installed it into the passenger head. durring a resent head swap, i broke the adapter. this seems to be a better way to go. could you provide the part number of the autometer guage so i can be sure it will work? also, i'm not sure which wire goes to the computer or the guage, could reference which wire is which?

I'll go out to take a look and see if I can't get a pin # or something for ya.

IronDonut, 98 is the only year that they used a 2in1 style sening unit. One output just for computer and one for guage.

very good info to know.

i was just about to install a temp gauge in my car, and i think i'll do it this route.

I was fairly sure that it would work, but was suprised that no resistor was needed to "set" the autometer gauge, and the sending unit really was the same as the autometer styles.
