LS1 OBD2 requirements?
LS1 OBD2 requirements? I'm very seriously looking into putting an LS1 in my 1987 Mercedes 560SEC. Take out the 238 HP V8, drop in a 350HP+ LS1, but.... need some help on the regulations side of the swap. I'm in Las Vegas and understand that in CA, if an engine swap is done it must be a newer engine and all the emissions stuff is supposed to be on there.
Anybody have any idea where to go to determine Nevada requirements?
Also, if I put a new engine into an older car, do I have to have OBD2 functional?

Can't telll you whether or not NV follows CA standards or not. But I' can tell you how it works here in Kalifornia.
Configuration of smog equipment for the engine you're putting in needs to be of the same year or newer than the chassis.
If you follow that, then yes, all OBDII functions will work, and the system will operate and function, since (at least in CA) Bureau of Automotive repair, who does the first inspection, will scan the diagnostic port to see if there are any obdii codes thrown.

I've added OBDII on Euro Mercedes imported into the US and it looks like I'll need to add it on my '87 Mercedes. It means more wiring to do, something else to check. I was hoping that it wasn't necessary - too old a car.
