Default Anyone else modify pans besides S&P

I was ready to buy a Street and Performance modified F-body oil pan on exchange. Their new prices in their 2006 catalog are more than the 2005 catalog which I have, and it's still 2005! They won't give me the 2005 price so I'm fed up with them... anyone else modify the pans? I need one that looks like a regular SBC pan.

Thanks, -Dave

are you talking about the mod where you cut a chunk from the stump of a Fbody pan, and move the "front" of the stump further back to clear the Kmember??

if so, i would cut the pan myself, get some alum bar and fit it up close as i can. its not hard to cut/grind alum.

once you have it fit up good, and you know it fits your car perfect, then have a local welder weld it up for you.

should cost you under $50 total, total cost depending on where you're at and who you know.

Yea, that's the one. The only thing I'm worried about is that pan warping while the welder is welding it. The more I think about it, the more I think I am going to cut the pieces myself and have someone weld it.

Don't forget that you will have to extend the pick up tube and get it in position too. It will need to be longer than stock

Warping that pan is a HUGE issue. Be suer to have a jig or something to bolt it down hen welding it, and weld it slow. Find someone who really knows what they are doing, I have heard several stories of those pans warping from the do-it-yourselfer.

I did most of it myself as well (minus the welding) make sure that the aluminum is perfectly clean, (hot tank it or whatever) and PREHEAT the pan and material before it's welded, and a jig is a good idea as well. As for the tube, all you gotta do is torch the about 80 degree bend just before the pickup thingy, and you'll gain the extra 3 inches or so. Good luck! I had access to a CNC mill, so i used a carbide cutter to slice the pan perfectly, as i did with the insert.
