Default v6 to v8 swap

anyone on here done v6 to v8 swap on a firebird?? search didnt bring up anything (or its not working again) so i just figured i would ask. if so there are some questions i would like answers to. the computer and wiring harness is from a 98(will be reprogrammed for my 408) and being swapped into a 2001 v6 firebird


1. i have heard that once you plug everything up under the hood that only one side of the engine will fire and it needs an additional wire run or some thing like that. could someone explain

2. what are the similarities if any with the fuel system. the tank, lines.....
what do i need to keep and what do i have to swap. (i know the obvious that the pump will need to be changed and there is something about the ls1 having a return line and the v6 doesnt) but i woud like to have some forward knowledge

3. suspension i understand that the front coils are stronger on the v8 to compensate for the weight but are the rears any different.

First, I am pretty sure you are starting out with a mismatch and creating a headache for yourself by using a 98 computer and harness. for an '01 car, you should use a '99-'02 computer and harness.
Someone correct me if I am wrong.

dont mess with a 98 computer

an LS1 with fuel and a battery should run outside of a car.

k-member, rack and pinion (if your going to run headers), hard return line, fuel pump, probably need a regulator, not sure if you will have to change guage cluster or not since it's an 01 car, tranny crossmember, driveshaft, radiator, i'm sure there is mor, that i just can't think of right now.

for what ever reason i got confused i have a 99 harness and computer (dont ask) thanks homegrown i forgot about the rack and pinion, im going with the bmr crossmember to help even out the weight since im going iron instead of aluminium, i dont think i have to change he cluster but im going too. i think im going to go with a racetronix fuel pump kit, as far as radiator goes would it be worth it to get a high capacity one or a stock one from a ta?
