'98 Vette LS1 Swap

Default '98 Vette LS1 Swap

I found a guy parting out a '98 Corvette/M6 with 40K miles. Hed let the car go with the complete drivetrain for $4000. Now, I dont really have any desire to swap out the IRS. Can I still us ethe tranny or am I better off finding a normal ls1 f-body T56? If thats the case I may just see how much he'd get rid of the LS1 and the wiring harness and PCM for. Now, '98's are fly by wire, are they not? What can I do to fix that issue when swapping into an older car? Thanks. Im also considering maybe keeping my built 2004R. I know the bolt pattern is slightly different on the bellhousing, but otherwise can I use it with the manual PCM?

Noones used a Vette motor in a swap?

The motor will work fine but the tranny is not gonna work. Also , you'll need to buy an F-body oil pan . I can think of a few other snags you'll run into.

I have a vette engine and it had already been changed to a manual throttle body. Anyway, that's not too expensive. I would be sure and get all accessories, pulleys, and accessory brackets. The vette accessory setup works a little better in most old cars since the alt is up high. The A/C compressor would probably need to be relocated. Badjuju is right about probably having to change the oil pan.

Is there a problem with the ECM and changing to an f-body throttle body? Not sure how the TPS would differ between the two?

Also curious, how are the motors balanced? Am I going to need a balancing job done if I keep my 2004R? I know I'd need an automatic flexplate from an LS1... but will my exisiting converter work? Same bolt pattern? How about the snout?
