Gas guage question
Gas guage question Well i have a 72 C-10 with ls1-4l60e swapped in. Truck runs great but traction is issue. I used guage cluster out of 00 camaro in truck and everything works great except for the gas guage. The gauge reads 3/4 when the tank is actually empty and pegged out at full when full. I know camaro sender has output and ground wires and will work correctly when hooked up to gauge cluster, But im using truck sending unit and tank that came in truck and it only has one output wire coming out of top of sender and looks to be grounded within sender/tank. So is there any way to use resistor or something to fix this problem.

The Camaro system sends a 5 volt signal to the fuel tank sending unit and relies on the varying resistence of the "card" to provide a reading that the cluster can use. Your older truck uses a 12 volt signal through a 0-90 ohm variable resister (sender) in the tank. I'll try to find out what the Camaro sender card has for resistence because they don't show a spec in the shop manual. I'll go into the Parts Dept with an ohmmeter when I get the chance and measure a new one. You might end up trying to modify your old truck part............more later
