Default Alternator fusible link?

I am relocating the battery cable on my 5.3L to the passenger’s side and need to lengthen the alternator fusible link. Is it possible to solder on more wire or do I need to replace it with some other fused wire?

The fusible link is soldered into the the wire in series. Just cut where the fusible link isn't on the wire and extend that part. You can't extend the fusible link itself.

the fusible link on my 5.3 seems to be the whole wire that goes into and attaches to the battery cable and has fusible link written on the whole wire. so do i need to add wire to the end of that wire where it attaches to the battery cable? maybe use bigger wire than that wire...same size wire? or is the fusible link in the middle somewhere? the answer above is a little confusing... maybe its just me

Places like Summit sell fusible link wire. It is about a 12" length and has an eyelet on one end and a butt-end crimp connector on the other.

You can also buy fusible link on eBay and make your own. But an eyelet and a butt connector and crimp it all together.

When you extend it first crimp then solder the connection.

Any auto store worth a snot will sell fusible links. You can also replace it with an in line fuse holder.
