rack and pinion quesiton
Just so I'm clear here, you have a 2001 Firebird and you're installing a 408" LSX blocked engine/shortblock using a tubular K-member?
If that's correct then, why wouldn't the steering rack fit? You're keeping the Fbody pan and accessory mounting, correct? As long as the K-member was made for a factory steering rack, it should bolt right up without any issues.
Maybe I'm confused on your question though.

no your not confused maybe i am i have heard that the racks werent the same on the 3.8 v6 and the ls1 equipped cars that is why i was asking mayve its not the rack itself but the link between it and the steering wheel that needs to change

I know all the earlier (93-97) cars are different from the LS1 racks. Not sure about a late model V6 car though. Good luck.Mike
