2002 5.3L Conversion into a 1986 Pickup
I am doing a conversion of a 2002 5.3L Tahoe motor, into a 1986 chevy pickup. I had the motor running on an engine stand at idle, and then I got it in the truck. Once in the truck it would start up consistently and idle great. All in open loop. And then I decided to take it around the block. I did not have any O2 sensors at the time, and the camshaft position sensor was not working. As I limped it back on about 4 cylinders it died, and has never ran consistently in open loop again. My goal is to get back to where I started.
I have checked the following things:
Fuel Pressue = 60psi at the fuel rail
Compression = Above 150psi
All the grounds have been checked out.
I hooked a timing light up to one of the spark plug wires and I cranked the motor over, with the fuel pump disabled. I was getting a spark at a consistent frequency until the fourth cycle of the motor. I am wondering if this is pointing to the crankshaft position sensor.
I have reached a stand still and I am wondering if I have my grounds right, or possibly the wiring wrong.
Need help,
Jeremy
Thanks,
