is this a ok deal or should I keep looking? My buddy is a tech at the local chevy dealer and he can get me a 4.8 "pull out" for $300. Now it needs heads and there is no throttle body but the intake is there, and it`s missing a bunch of stuff. Basically the motor was pulled for the cracked heads and a crate motor was installed. I already have a 5.3 crank and rods that need to be redone. Should I pick it up or would it nickle and dime me to death? This would be for my 65 chevelle and I would make it a 5.3 to keep it close to the original 327 engine size. I would keep it pretty much stock except for maybe a better cam and headers. What do you guys recomend? By the way, I don`t know **** about LS1`s. Thanks.
I'd say pass on it. There are complete running 5.3 motors on EBay starting at $700.

If you shop around at the wrecking yards in Rancho Cordova I bet you can find something similar. GM made a ton of those trucks starting in 99, so with a 7 year run now there should be plenty of good motors available. Good luck

Thanks Pat. I called the yards out there once before and they wanted $3500 for the 5.3 with tranny and all. Thats more than I have to spend at one time. I guess I`ll keep looking.
