Default 62ChevyII project need advice

Just purchased a 62 Nova...

I plan to buy a low mile pull-out from a local salvage yard.
I'm thinking on putting a 6.0/4l80e ($2500) in it.
I have also looked at an LS1/4l60e ($3000).

I don't plan to rebuild the motor, but I am considering intake/cam/heads swap.
My question is won't the 6.0L be the best way to go?
I'm looking for 400rwhp weekend cruiser.

I have searched and it seems people are all jumping on the 6.0L bandwagon. Since it's cheaper than the LS1 I'm also leaning that way.

Any help/advice will be appreciated.

benifite of the 6.0 is that it can run 87 octane and it's cheaper. however it is heavier then the ls1. and it's rotating assmble is a littel bite heavier slowing rev's. considering your working with a much lighter car you might want to consider the ls1 if you can swing the extra 500. just my opinon though.

are you planning on running one of the aftermarket front ends? im pretty sure thats the only way you can go to make it work, the steering linkages on the stock front end will hit the rear sump.

The car currently has a Heidts aftermarket front clip with rack and pinion and disk brakes. Also has narrowed 9" rearend with ladder bar setup.

I'm not worried about the extra $500 for the LS1. I just have been hearing that the 6.0L's iron block could take more abuse and all the LS1 aftermarket parts can be used to achieve the same HP output. Yes or no?

Yes but you will also be investing in a crankshaft as those seem to be the weak link of a 6.0 as far as i have heard. Suppose to be good other than that, still trying to make the same decision as you at the moment
