Want to swap 3.8 to 5.7.....
Want to swap 3.8 to 5.7..... Does anyone know where I could find more information on this or know someone who's done it. My poor little 3.8 V6 (01' Camaro) has blown a head gasket or something and ruined at least one or two bearings. Either way it looks like the engine's coming out of the car. So I thought I'd research and see how bad it would be to drop a 5.7 in there. I really just need to know if you have to change motor mounts and all sorts of stuff or if you just swap the engine and all it's accessories? Appreciate any help!

There is quite a bit of difference between the V6 and V8 models other than the engine. The V8 has a tighter steering ratio than the V6, different rear gears, different speedometer, different suspension, etc.
i did it, and there is a lot that has to be changed as bbfirebird stated. the engine crossmember has to be changed, and if your going to change it you might as well get a tubular k-member (wish i had done this) if you plan on running headers, the rack and pinion has to be changed. speedo, i went from auto to 6 speed so the tranny mound obviously had to be changed, the driveshaft had to go. wiring harness had to be repinned, there was quite a bit more i am sure, but that is what i can think of quickly off the top of my head. and plus my car is a 96, so i am not sure what would be different as far as wiring goes for the 98+ cars. hope that helped slightly. overall i have much less $ in my car than if i had went out an bought an ls1 car, but i bought my car for 3800.00 with the V6... ??? so i have approx 10-13 k in my car...
Alright well I appreciate the help. If I do it then I want to do it right but unfortunately I don't have the money for that right now so I think I'm going to rebuild the sixer and prep her for some nitrous. At least then I'll be able to hang with some LS1s. Hehehe. Thanks again!

Search search and then search some more im doing this swap for the second time first was a 5.7 A4 into a 94. Current is a 5.3 M6 into a 95, All the information you need is either in the stickies or in other peoples built threads.
