Default Making 1 out of 2

I have a 99 5.3 and a 02 LS1, I want to mix and match parts for the best combo in a 4x4. I really want to use the 5.3 accessories for the high mounted alternator as this rig will see lots of mud dust and water.

I have been surfing quite a bit here, scouring back issues of the news stand rags, and bought and read the LS1 books from Cartec, and HP

The 5.3 is 100 complete including the computer and complete uncut harness. The LS1 is complete minus the alternator, computer, and the harness has been cut up some.

I have read conflicting info about using the ls1 intake with the truck accessories.

I plan on using an electric fan.

I like the idea of the extra ponies from the ls1, but the 80? lb weight savings on the front of my rig is even sweeter. I don't like the idea of 93 octane, (maybe I should start another thread with this question,) but are there any parts from the 5.3, or things that I could do to the LS1 while it is on a engine stand that I could swap to the ls1 that would make it a little more 87 octane friendly. I understand that lmaking the righ more 87 octane friendly would hurt the max hp.

The rig will weigh about 4200 lbs, and I plan on 35 inch tires with 4.56 gears and a 4l60E. It will have a double transfer case fwiw.

Any and all advice and links to helpful threads would be much appreciated.

6.0L heads will lower compression on the LS1. I'm pretty sure it can be tuned to accept 87, stock, though.

what size gas tank do you have in your truck 30 gallons. think about it man supreme is only 20 cents a gallon more than regular most of the time. your talking an extra six bucks every fill up. why detune the motor? it is one of those things you pay for when you want the performance.

The truck accys. can be made to fit, try checking the truck section for more details on the intake / accys. fit, I think the idler pulley by the alternator gets in the way of the throttlebody and the top water outlet on the waterpump will interfere with the throttlebody. Don`t worry about the octane, the LSx motors have dual timing tables, if you run crap gas it will use the low octane table and be just fine. But my motor gets better mileage with higher octane fuel.

you could try using the 5.7 waterpump and spacing out the pulley to line up with the other truck pulleys then you could use the 5.7 intake. but if you've got the hood clearance just use the truck intake it's supposed to have a liitle more bottom end torque and only starts losing a little h.p. at higher rpms.and also i beleive the 5.7 throttle bodly is 78mm whereas the truck is 85mm. if you're looking for power try a cam, headers, pushrods, torque converter,u/d pulley. ditto on the check the trucks section of this forum
