oil pressure???

oil pressure??? Just picked up a corvette that I plan on parting out... I'm going to use the engine, harnes, and computer out of it and part the rest.. I might use the seats... It's got one problem though... on the dash the oil pressure is pegged out... the owner told me this just happenned suddenly. 
anyone know what could have possibly caused this to happen??? maybe the senning unit is hung up... I'm not sure where to start...
