Default gauge cluster question

I don't know if this is where this question should go or not. But I wanted to know about the guage clusters and how interchangable they are. If I am usisng the ls1 computer and harness in another vehicle(non ls1 vehicle) could I also use the gauge cluster that came out of the donor vehicle an 00 TA or could I even use a corvette cluster instead, or would I need the vette computer, or does it matter. I would like to use the 200 mph cluster if possible. thanks

I am doing my conversion and I am using all the wirings and cluster from a donor car. That way I don't have to convert signals for all the sensors to make them compatible to my old cluster. I finished all the wirings for the car but I am not ready to fire it up yet. I am working on a couple of small issues with the tranny before I attempt to fire it up. You can check out my project by follow the link in my Sig.
Good luck

thats a nice write up looks like you are doing a good job. my donor car is a TA I am going to try to lay out my harness and see whats what but I may ending up buying me a custom harness. I guess then maybe I could have it setup to run the vette cluster.

the vette cluster uses serial data via the BCM. im no wiring expert, but it would take some electrical knowledge to pull it off. wires, plugs and codes probably dont match up.
any of the 99-02 f body clusters are the same. 98 was special(maybe) and the 97 cluster is its own kind, but runs the same circuitry as the 93-96(LT1) clusters.
good luck.

The only thing you should need the BCM for is to send signal to the PCM so you can get the car started. The rest of the stuffs that are missing, the BCM will just set TDCs (trouble codes).

If you use aftermarket harness it will not have any wires for your cluster. You will have to run your own wires from all the sensors to the donors cluster. If you want to use the donor car's cluster the best way to do is use the donor car's harness. You will need a manual to study all the wires. I am fortunate to have a full set of manuals that I borrowed from a coworker. Good luck
