Default THIRD GEN Formula LS1 SWAP

I am seriously considering swapping an LS1 in my 1991 Formula but I was wondering about how much it will cost me to do so outside of the cost for the motor? Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Well im doing the LS1 swap into my 89 camaro. I cant really say how much, little parts are going to start to nickel and dime you very bad. If you know what your going to need to get the engine in there then i start to add up the price. I think i spent around 4G or maybe more just on parts. LOL Its a crazy swap bro.

start hitting the bone yards for 4th gen parts.. like wiring, trans mount, radiator, hoses, ect. We did an LS1 into an 86 camaro. the guy above is right.. nickle and dime you to death with all the little crap you wouldnt think of.

One of the best ways to help avoid nickel and dime, and maybe save some money, is to get a donar car. Couple reasons I like donars over pull outs. You know how it came apart, you know you have everything for the engine and all, you can use teh fuel tank and the fuel lines with alittle fiddling, drivershaft, rear, coolant & washer bottles (no more ugly plastic ones), and you can steal some fo the wiring to make it work. THEN, you can sell parts off that car and make some money back. Just my 2 cents on that...

However...if you really just want the motor and trans pull out... Look to buy:

- motor mount plates
- trans crossmember
- torque arm
- fuel pump upgrade
- re-gear if going from auto to manual
- hoses for various things
- a bunch of relays and some wire
- headers if you arent using stock manifolds
- some exhaust parts and fabbing
- intake ducting and a filter

That should get it running and driving. There are probably a handful of things I left out. Basically what my long rambling post is saying... I agree with the above. The small stuff that I cant even think of, that Ive already bought are the things that add up. Then if you are like some of us..you cant stop at a simple swap. Next thing you know you are getting springs, new shocks, poly bushings for everything, etc etc..

If you are handy, and decent at fabricating, you can cut the cost big time. If you want to make your own stuff, you could pull this swap off fairly cheap i think. Its all in how much you want to buy or make.
