Default LS1 in a boat???

Has anyone done this? I'm thinking about starting this project. LS1 a good contender for this swap?

What kind of boat? What sort of drive? With the wide flat torque curve and lighter weight I would think an LSx would be a good boat motor. Why not?

badass, the only thing you would have to do is get a heat exhanger so you can run a coolant system and use the seawater to cool the coolant, the aluminum would corrode real quick with seawater. unless this is a lakeboat. if you do it put an ls6 cam in, or a cheatr cam, something with a stock powerband range but a little more oomph.

The Mastercraft and ski Nautiques come with rhe 6.0L as options so the parts are out there to do the swap which should be easy enough. I would run a stock truck intake if it would fit and a cam with low RPM torque. Would make for a nice boat!

Thumbs up Donzi's...

I've owned a couple 18' Donzi's & a 16'. An Lx based engine would bolt right up to an existing Mercruiser bellhousing(Alpha or Bravo, they are the same), while using a flywheel from a stick car. The regular Mercruiser drive coupler should bolt onto this flywheel & then the drives input shaft simply slides into the coupler. Fabricate the stringer mounts out of 4" x 6" x 3/8" aluminum architectual angle. Then, using standard Mercruiser vertically adjustable mounts(that come on any & all Mercs), you can adjust the input shaft alignment perfectly & from the outer transom gimbal with a Mercruiser alignment tool. A typical stand-alone harness and a stock computer would work. Since your in fresh water, you won't have any electrolysis problems at all, so closed cooling should'nt be necessary. You might actually foul plugs more often than a engine on the road, as your northern lakes water temperature might not let the engine actually run hot enough. This could be regulated with thermostats. An LS1 into an antique wood Chris*Craft has already been done. By the way, Mercruiser's current line of small-block Mercruisers are all based off the Chevy Lx engine line. The big block Vortech Mercruiser 496 & 496HO is a version of these, including Mercruisers Hi-Performance Division engine packages. Gar

Default Chris Craft

I'd like to see it as well. Those are right hand rotation motors I think. My Lyman is at least.

How does a mercruiser drive coupler bolt up? Does it bolt up to the flywheel where a torque convertor would normally bolt up or does it bolt onto the same bolts that hold the flywheel to the crank? I never pulled a mercruiser apart, I`m a berkeley jet guy. Their stupid simple, very reliable, and can take insane amounts of power with only a few upgrades. The jet boat couplers bolt to the crank bolts and I am not sure if the crank bolts on an LSx have the same spacing as a SBC, BBC, or BBO. But I have been thinking that an LSx would be a great jet boat engine, I don`t think that I would have the time or money to try swapping one in for at least a couple years.

Would be great! I have been thinking about it for a future boat myself.

my brother is selling his Baja 20' Outlaw with a vortec 305/Alpha, that thing NEEDS to have an LSx in it with the deep v hull and monstrous 4 blade prop that's on it.
