For starters, you can put some 383 Parts in an LT1, like the crank, to get some more HP. Doesnt mean you have a 383 CI motor.

Any of those LT1 kits will work.

These kits are for bottem end rebuilds, to handle something like a S/C.
$700 is a pretty good deal, but the labor is going to be through the roof.

An LT1 is not a GEN I SBC, it is a GEN II SBC. The cranks are different, the GEN I uses a 2 piece rear main seal until the late 80`s (might be 86), The GEN II uses a 1 piece rear main seal. 99% of the lower budget 383 kits are made for the older style 2 piece seal GEN I SBC`s and will not work in a GEN II engine.

Gen 1 has both 1 and 2 piece rear mains i think 86 and older is 2 piece and 87 and newer is one peice. The gen 2 cranks will swap into a one peice rear main gen one block the differance between the gen 1 and gen 2 is the heads, they have different bolt pattens.

Also, the LT1 has reverse flow cooling, front mounted distributor (optispark) and gear driven water pump.
