damn the vats
i just finished my installation of my 5.3 in my 85 k10 and well it just runs for a second and dies. big suprise, i was prepared for this, i used a 02 computer and wiring for my swap, since a friend of mine has hptunners for 02 silverado but to our suprise my 02 tahoe computer (the 3rd one that i have recieved, even though i keep ordering 02 silverado computers) will not work since we don't have the suv update. this sucks. what do you all suggest. thanks

Call *************** He will sell you a bypass module for xx. Three wires to hook up with directions, running like a champ in five minutes work.

A VATS bypass will NOT work in this application. VATS bypass modules can be designed to put out either a 30 or 50hz square wave signal which will bypass VATS on an f-body motor and lots of older GM stuff. Truck, Vette, and GTO LSx`s use a serial data signal which cannot be bypassed, you have to turn the VATS off in the computer. I have heard that it is possible to use a tuning program (don`t remember if it was HP Tuners or EFI live 7) to change the VATS in the computer to the older style square wave signal instead of the serial data signal. But if you are in there anyway you might as well just shut the VATS off completely.......unless you really want the extra security.
