Default S10 LS1 and towing.

How much can an LS1 tow. I am wondering since I have a 1999 LS1 in a 1994 S10 if I can tow. I didnt know if the aluminum block and all was ever designed for towing. I am not looking to tow anything big. I have a Class III Hidden Hitch behind my rollpan so the truck is not a problem...just worried about the engine. I am just looking to tow a 4x8 trailer or my Jet Ski (2006 Sea Doo RXP). All info will help out alot...thanks!

Should't have a problem with towing that. I belive what will limit your towing capacity is the truck not the ls1

I used to tow a full sized ski boat with my old 86 S10 with a TPI'd 350. You should have no problems at all.

Heh heh. Yep, pulled all kinds of stuff with mine. Boats, loaded car trailers, etc. The motor will easily pull what the truck may have trouble stopping. Been there, done that. You will also find out in a hurry how well you designed and executed your cooling system.

Have you ever see a C5 with two Sea Doo's behind it? I have you should be fine with something small like those. I also agree the lil truck will be the limiting factor before the motor will be.

Oh when it's time for brakes shoot me a pm I got a guy who can hook you up with some kits I have C5's up front and LS1's rear. If you got the equivalent in Baer products it would've been almost $5K I did the job for about $1K. What I have is essentially a GT kit up front and a Track kit out back.

These guys are right on....

For the kind of weight you're talking (couple of jet skis, under 2,000lbs) you shouldn't have any trouble at all. You will discover how inadequate the brakes are, however.....

For heavier trailers, you'll push the limits of the cooling system, transmission, and brakes. Hopefully you won't push too far. The highest rated hitch I've seen for the S10 platform is 6,000lbs (and technically, thats with a weight distributing hitch). Factory tow ratings are typically under that weight. I think my Bravada (4.3, auto, AWD, 4dr blazer) has a 5500lb rating (thats with the V6).

I intend upon dragging a 4,000+ boat on a tandem axle trailer around when I'm done with my conversion. Nice thing about it is "it's got brakes", electric brakes on both axles....So hopefully my brakes won't be too overtaxed before I get around to upgrading to C5/LS1 stuff front/rear.
