Default LS1 Starter

In the final stages of conversion, went to fire it up and starter has grinding sound. Tried shimming, no luck. Starter has 9 teeth on it. Any suggestions?

Ned more info on what you are using and have swap out.

I would check the Flywheel.. is it the original one, a new one or aftermarket one ? Check to make sure it is seated correctly and is true. Hope that help some.

Aslo make sure you have it wired correctly...sometimes if you accidentally wired the ground to the starter...it wont allow the solenoid to kick all the way out and just grind it up.....make sure the power is going to the pass side stud on the starter and thats it....there is a ground strap that goes to the block right next to it.....no ground on the starter. hope it helps some...just an idea.

After trying different starters and all having the same issue, I looked into the flywheel real close. When I rotated the flywheel, the ring gear was centered and as I rotated more, the ring gear was not centered to the big flat plate. I thought maybe the weld broke or something, looks like thats how they welded it at the factory. It's off by more than .080".
