$800 worth of parts traded for a 2002 6.0L LQ4 with less than 120,000 miles. Previous owner replaced it with a lower mile engine after his buddy had a wreck.

Last week i sold a150K 2003 5.3 with accessories, bnib performer rpm, bnib msd box, bnib 1" ebay setback plates, and used f-body headers for a grand. Unfortunate part imo was selling it to put a fresh rebuilt 355 in the Wife's Monte SS INSTEAD of some third generation variant, paid about a hundred bucks for the completely rebuilt 355 with 292 heads.

Bought my 98 Z28 for 3K with 140K miles.
Took out the LS1/T56 and every other swap component I needed (fans, rad, pcm, wiring, console, etc) and then sold the roller for 2K.

I don't think there's any doubt you can come out money ahead by buying a car, pulling the engine/trans and parting or selling the chassis. The problem for many of us though is a simple lack of space.

This says it all right here for most of the do-it-yourselfer's...

I feel for you guys that have to work out of a 2 stall garage...(and am VERY impressed with your outcomes)...

I have literally hundreds of acres of space...and a nice facility.

Sometimes I may seem to come off the wrong way...but I have a hoist, trans jack, all the tools I need to pull whatever I need...I don't think I have ever had any cash outlayed in any of my LS's when I get done selling off the rest of the carcass...
