Heads and Cam Question
Heads and Cam Question Thinking about going with an LQ4 in my 79 TransAm. Will a set of 241 heads from an 02 Ls1 be any better performance wise over the stock heads that come on this motor? Also thinking about putting an ASA cam in the motor which according to desktop dyno will provide around 500 peak HP and torque but at like 6,000 RPM. Tell what you think about these nembers and about changing the heads.
Just ignore the areas where it says 5.3L, When G-body created this, he forgot to update it to 6.0L but the specs are all correct.

I always thought that the 317 heads off the later LQ4 had LS6-type ports, just a bigger chamber. I could be wrong though. The 241 heads are just later years LS1 heads with non-LS6 ports. The 241 heads would bump your compression, though (if that's what you're looking for) because they have smaller chambers than the 317s. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
Ok, but what do you think about the dyno results. Seems to me that the motor would be making peak HP at excessively high RPMs (6,000). Does anyone know if it would be a bad idea to go this rought because of the high RPMs?
