There's one LED in the 2-1/6" gauges, and three in each 3-3/8" gauge. The LEDs are 3mm 15,000 mcd .. I hit each one with a grinder to scatter the light for better distribution, and it works great.

These LED's actually came with a pack of resistors. You'd want to make sure the value you use matches the LED you're using. Break out the Ohm's law, look up the current across the LED (usually on the package), and figure out the right resistance for the voltage you intend to run.
