LSX...building from scratch
But, my suggestion to you would be this: It is likely to be less expensive to source a complete LQ4 (if you're using an iron block) from a salvage yard. Check around, they're out there for reasonable money. Then sell off the parts you don't need. If you're going with the LS2 alum block, you may have no viable choices but to buy new (but it doesn't hurt to look around). I've had good success with Car-Part.
Benefits of buying complete:
1.) You don't have to source every single sensor, since they can be pricey (since you'll be going through some stealership or other). Depending upon how good a deal you get on the motor and what you can sell, you might be able to get the block and sensors for less than what you'd pay for just a new block (that's up to your haggling / sales skills).
2.) You get a seasoned block to start with. You'd think "seasoned" is a nice term for used, right? Well in this case its not. With cast iron, you really need to let it age and give it some heat cycles for it to move around to wherever it's going to move to before you try and machine it (bigger bores, line hone, whatever you're going to do). I'm not sure if aluminum blocks (like the LS2 6.0) would benefit from seasoning (maybe Old Bay?)
Just another option to consider.....
