Only things holding me back are the facts that the truck is an OBDI vehicle, it's 4x4, and I don't know how many local shops would be willing to tackle the project.

1.) Oilpan: You need a custom piece. Fabricate your own (my method) or buy one (Turbotime is supposed to be making them for ~$500)
2.) Exhaust: No stock manifolds fit without modification. They can be modified, but you're on your own there. There aren't commercially available headers either.
3.) Engine / Transmission / Tcase location is much more critical. For a 4wd you've got 2 driveshafts to worry about and pinion angles on 2 pumpkins to make sure are correct.
Good luck finding a shop to tackle it. There aren't many who would be willing to take it on. And you'll pay for the ones that will take it on. But that's my opinon.
Here's what I can tell you: I've got about $7k+ in my conversion. That includes a good used 6.0L ($1200) a good used 4L80E (don't like the 60E in an AWD application, $800), a rebuilt transfer case ($1000), reprogrammed computer and a complete new harness ($1100) and converting my truck motor to C5 accessories (probably another $500). I built the oil pan, exhaust from the motor to a JBA 3" Cat back system ($300), and transmission crossmember. Basically everything between the AC condesor and the axles were either replaced or modified. I did all the work, and worked on it a fair bit every week, but not 80hrs a week (probably 25hrs a week with some vacation time in there too), which is why I started in April and it wasn't done until October. All in all, I'm pleased with the results.
