Default column shift LSX in 72 Nova?

Been looking at the Nova recently (currently 6cyl powerglide) and was trying to figure out if I could set up an LS1 4l60e using my original column shifter.

Has anyone done it? I'm guessing there would probably be more to this than just getting the right set of detents machined for the shifter handle to follow.

I really wanna try and keep the column shift to keep a sleeper vibe.

Also, since the car needs a new set of front coils, and I know the LS is lighter than a smallblock, what rating should the springs be to maintain a normal stance and regular driveability characteristics?

Could you get parts from a 94-96 B-body? The caprice I have uses a coulumn shifter and has a 4L60E trans. These cars should be easy to find at a salvage yard.

I have read in some Mag Ad's or Catalogs of kits to convert the Column shift pattern to a 4 sp from 2/3 sp.. So.. there is hope.. If I run into it..I will reply again later... Once I start my 71' Nova project.. I will have to research for it also... as I many go A4 too..

I am using a GM column shift steering column with a 4L60E in my swap. It works fine. I used an adjustable shift rod and lever from the aftermarket to hook it up. It was working with the Turbo 350 I had in there before the swap. It helps that I have a line of sight from the column lever to the shift lever on the trans. Lokar and others have the adjustable rod and lever and also a shift cable that will work. I don't have a shift position indicator on mine at the moment, I just know where the gears are. It is NOT a precise shifting tool for maual shifting your transmission, no detents to stop it from over shifting if you push to hard. But with the 4L60E, I'm told it's best to let it shift itself anyway. No way you can do it better than the computer.
