fuel pump request from ECU

fuel pump request from ECU hi guys...im trying to understand the the fuel pump request circuit completely. I have conflicting information on how the oem fuel pump relay circuit is completed....
does the ls1 ecu provide a 12v signal to the fuel pump relay or a ground path?
im trying to avoid hanging a bunch of extra relays in a car, and would love to use the oem pump relay...to do so i obvioulsy have to figure out how it works.
