are there any finished gtm's?
just to clarify, we have never built a car from teh ground up, but we both have some good mechanical knowledge, like neither of us is afraid of diving in the motor to fix something(i might be a little lazy on the matter but thats something else) the only thing that makes me nervous is the wiring...

FFR has a pretty comprehensive manual that covers the disassembly of the donor and the assembly of the kit. So far we haven't hit any problem that we couldn't figure out between scratching our heads and reading the manual. FFR will sell you one for $50 plus $5 shipping.
No welding is required if you stick with the stock design. If you venture into your own design, for example using a non-Porsche tranny, that could drag you into welding.
Also, you don't need to make any custom parts as long as you stick to the stock design. We're going our own route on seats and seat belts so we'll need to figure out the mounts on our own. Other than that, we're staying stock.
The required tools are pretty basic. Sockets, torx bits, engine hoist. Nothing exotic.
The supposed scoop on the wiring harness is that it's time consuming but not that difficult. There is at least one company that sells a custom wiring harness for the GTM though. We're going that route and plan to sell our donor car harness to offset a small part of the cost.
As slammer wrote, painting is supposed to be the single biggest chore. Quite a few builders contract out the entire painting task. Others do all the prep work but contract out the final steps. That's probably what we're going to do. And of course some folks do all the paint work themselves.
It's a big project but one of the keys, I think, is don't rush it. Just take it one day at a time, working on it when you can and enjoying the work as you do it.
It's also useful to visit their shop if you live nearby or can manage to swing a vacation to New England.
Good luck with your decision!
the biggest headache sounds like the wiring harness, and the interior in terms of getting the a/c and stereo in there. I like the idea that the car is a minimalist performance car, manual steering rack, a real street beast. again good luck with the build and thanks for the encouragement

also, looking at your setup, what headers did you end up using?

As for headers,,, just finished up building some as there are none currently available. The is a guy out of NY that is working with Kooks trying to get a set produced. There are a few picture of what I built:

How do you like the black paint, if you don't mind me asking? We've been working through our color choices and saw the black GTM that FFR has at their shop. I thought it looked really sharp.
