I'm looking for a speedo that would work with a T56 and would be round and a separate unit. ?
(not incorporated with a rpm and water temp etc etc..)
pref. something NOT aftermarket ?
thanks.

Are you using the PCM for an LSx too or is the T56 going to be behind a carbureted motor?
What brand of speedo do you prefer?
There are tons of electric speedometers that will work, almost all of the large gauge companies make a programmable electric speedometer.

it going to be behind a carbd engine (well to be exact a PROPANE fueled engine but the result is the same = no ecu)
i would prefer something that came on a car from the factory.
would the aftermarket speedo's allso require the ecu / dash to be installed for some reason ?
or would they work directly from the signal from the T56 ?

You could use an OEM GM gauge, but you would need a convertor to convert the signal. The GM speedo will be looking for a 4000 pulse per mile square wave DC signal. You would need to use a (DRAC) digital ratio adapter controller from an 87-89 full size truck. They are programmable to adjust for tire size/gear ratio, but I don`t know what you use to program them.
You may also be able to find an electronic adapter from dakota digital.
I don`t know what GM car would have a speedometer that would work, I know the late 80`s trucks had speedometers with the odometer in them, but they were only half round. I looked around for a round GM speedo with the odometer inside it when I was doing my conversion, but I never found one.

BLARG! I'm having an issue with my speedo. I was previously running the pulse directly off the VSS right from the trans to the speedo and it worked fine. I had one wire to the input on the speedo and one to the ground. After posting about whether or not the PCM needs VSS on a t56 and discovering that it does I wired the VSS to the PCM as stock and used the pin 50 Red ( speedo output ) to the same input on the speedo and now it doesn't work. Is this a square wave/sine wave issue? Whats the fix? I'm sure I could figure this out but I have the entire car bolted back together and wanted to bounce this out to you guys before I tear it apart so I can pinpoint where to attack and avoid unnecessary work. Thanks

Should have specified its an autometer ultra light pro comp electric. I guesds what I need to know is do I hook it back up direct and splice in the PCM feed or is there another/better way?
***edit*** I spliced it into the VSS feed from the trans and unhooked the speedo output from the PCM and its working again. No idea if its pulling trouble codes as my service engine light was already on. I will update after the tune if this is a problem. If no update? No problem
Right? riiiiight
