Default Rx7 Headers

Was wondering if any one has found long tube headers that fit in a 3erd Gen rx7 for an LS1 other than Hinson or Granny’s.

thanks.

v8rx7forum.com would know for sure.... not sure about the 3rd gen. But 351 bbk mustang 1 3/4" headers bolt up to the FC with LSx flanges welded on.

I modded a set of 1 3/4" BBK long tubes from a 86-93 5.0 mustang. It's a bit of work, but not something that a decent welder should be afraid of. You have to remove the mustang flanges, use an expander to return the tubing to round (stangs have oval exhaust ports) and then trim the primaries down a bit so the collectors move closer to the tranny and weld the LSX flanges on. It's not a ton of work, but it does save quite a few $s if you can do some minor fabbing. As far as I know I'm the only one that has done this on an FD3s and I used Granny's kit that requires hood mods, so I dunno how it will work with Hinson's kit if you planned to go with his. You should find some pics of the headers at link below.

JTR (sponsor on v8rx7forum.com) makes 1 3/4" and 1 7/8" true long tubes with V-band clamps on the collectors. You can install them from the bottom in as much time as it takes you to tighten down the bolts. They are very very nice and the fit is great.

Only mod you need to do is slightly grind down the bellhousing where the bulge is for the starter for some clearance on one of the primaries. It isn't much material to remove; however should be done.

The other option is to get the Mustang headers and weld on a new set of LS1 flanges. They work nearly as well; however much more work... and the JTR's fit a lot better in the RX-7 application.

FYI- Hinson's are mid length and not a true long tube header.
