alternator HELP! i have a 98 ls1 with a one-wire cs130 alternator and the stud blew out the back of the case. ive driven it a little over 1000 miles with no problems. ive searched many threads but it seemed that everything contradicts themsevles. there is no red c2 pin 15 on my harness, is this for 99 up? do i still need a 470 ohm resistor or idiot light and where do i solder it in at? was the alternator not internally regulated and could be the cause of the problem? the one wire was hooked directly to the starter. also when replacing the alternator should i go with a stock 98 alternator or another generic one-wire set up, i dont have a lot of money to work with.

The 98`s are different from the 99+. On the 98`s the resistance it taken care of by the idiot light and they will not have a wire at c2 pin 15.
I attached a wiring diagram for the 98`s and you can see that there is a 470 ohm resistance between the terminal on the alt and the IGN+.
If you hook it up without a resistor, it will burn the alternator up sooner or later.

BTW, I'm using an 2003 Tahoe alternator on my 98. I have it connected from the PCM to the 'B' terminal, and the big wire going to the battery (starter lug). Is that correct for that alternator/PCM combination?

Have fun with the first startup and don`t forget to fill the coolant through the upper radiator hose.
