Default My LS1 third gen headers

Hawks makes nice headers, but $800+ was not in my budget. So I thought I would try my hand at making my own. I think they turned out pretty nice. Some of my welds look kind of bad, but that is just because there was too large of a gap to get a nice weld. The driver side is not fully welded, just all tacked together.

They're lookin good so far. I may try to make my own soon, but I'll start with a few spare sets of smallblock headers. Much props man.

Good job man. Post some pics of how they fit once you get them in there. I wanted to make my own...but the thought of having smooth one piece stainless headers got the best of me. haha. Atleast yours will fit how you want them to!

I'll get some pics of how they fit in the next couple of days. They tuck in nicely and hang ABOVE the bottom of the oil pan. I'll be doing the rest of my exhaust this week so I'll get some pics of all that.

Thanks for the compliments though

I would say I have about $200 max in materials (tubing, flanges, collectors, and a roll of welding wire). I got a pretty good deal on the tubing...just got some straight pieces and some donuts. As far as time goes...maybe 8-10 hours (and I still have to finish welding the driver side). I don't know if that is a long time to spend on some headers or not...I've just never done this before.

It's been relatively easy though. Just bolted the flange up to the head and started tacking pipes on. I kind of designed it all in my head before I started, so I had a good idea on how they should look. The only place I may have issues is where my steering shaft goes down to the rack and pinion. I don't have the brackets made for the rack yet, so I just had to guess as to where the shaft would go. I SHOULD have plenty of room.

I couldn't afford the Hawks headers either, so I made my own. The driver side is a 5.0 fox body mustang header with the ford flange cut off and LSX flange welded on I couldnt believe it fit so well. Now for the pass side I bought a box of J-bends from summit and basically did the same as you, bolt it on make a tack tack it off, make sure it clears everything on the body. I used that header wrap and it really cleaned up the look of them. Keep up the good work and post some pics of the exhaust.
