Default have question on ls1 or ls2

looking to buy an complete motor swap for my 79z would just like to have some input on if the ls2 from a 06 gto is worth the extra $ or if going with an ls1 from a 2002 f-body is the better idea both with t-56 trans.i know that the oil pan and such need to changed on the ls2 but that is only 250.00 from
gm with my discount not a big deal. so any thoughts on this would be great
thanks any info on this swap into a sec gen camaro would also be helpful

The 06 gto will have slightly better flowing 243 casting heads. I believe it's 6.0L as well. What is your purpose for the car? What kind of HP numbers are you looking for? How much of a price difference have you found them for? If it's simply a decent driver, I would probably go for the cheaper LS1 personally.

Something else I'm not sure about... Is the GTO a cable driven Throttle body or is it electronic? A cable driven will be a simpler swap.

the ls2 is drive by wire as for the price the ls1 is about 4,000$ cheaper. the car is just going to be a well rounded pro-touring street car looking for about 400hp maybe more just not sure if the extra money really does me any good from that stand point of a street car some time strip or autocross?

An Ls1 should be fine for that. They put out 350 HP at the crank, so some simple mods should get you to the 400 mark. And for $4000 less its a easy choice if I were in your shoes.

If you're not looking for big power I would save the cash and get the LS1. Unless money is no object.
