What are you guys doing for gas tanks for your genIII engine? Are you running stock tanks, adding foam, replacing them with aftermarket ones that have baffles?

Another avenue to go down is purchase a baffled pump from tanksinc.com and retro it into a stock style tank. Much cheaper than the Rock Valley tank, but also very labor intensive.
Here's a link to the pump/sump combo. http://www.tanksinc.com/index.cfm/pa...prod/prd84.htm

Since I have more time than money for the project, that's the way I'm handling mine

If you have the money, go with the Rock Valley Tank. If you want to save some money, you can make your own. Schitzo has an excellent write-up in the "LSX into 67-69 Camaro Basics" section. I bought a stainless tank kit from classic industries ($280) and a tanks inc pump like the one posted by rhino ($210); If had another chance, I probably would have bought an Aeromotive fuel pump. For data to the fuel gauge; used an auto-meter fuel sender ($65). There is some considerable amount of labor to make a mount plate, modify the fuel pump fuel sender mounts and float, and fuel tank baffles. Total cost in parts is about $560. Here are some photos:

Note: Not shown, but later had to weld the baffle directly to the bottom of the tank to make it easier to replace the fuel pump.

It really depends on what car you are looking to use the tank on.

I also went with the Tanks inc setup on a stock camaro tank

I just saw that you were using this in a truck, not a car. I haven't seen many truck swaps on here. I believe Shifty is doing one if I recall correctly.

Ackattack: This is wildly off topic, but did you ever live around the Topeka, KS area? I think I remember you having a NBM TA or Formula.

yeah, shifty is doing/did one....this will be in a 68 pickup with a "blazer tank" in it.

I'm originally from KS, I think I ran into you at an autocross in Salina right after you got your camaro; I had a NBM Formula. I lived in manhattan and worked in Topeka, so I may have ran into you at HPT too.

I am trying to use my stock tank and what I am thinking about doing is putting a bulhead fitting on my tank for a return line and using an external fuel pump and filter. My question is what size return should I use and will my stock fuel line be big enough? Besides that does anyone have any Ideas?

I'm gonna run a replacement tank, sumped with a external Bosch 044 pump. return line setup will consist of a NPT bung welded to the top and a 90* AN fitting.

Thumbs up

I got an Impala tank as well, fit up real nice in my 68 chevelle. Had to fab some hangers and make a new strap. I think it was about 100 bucks at the JY

would you happen to have any pics of the Imp tank? I was under the impression that it would only fit in the Chevelle. That seems to be a very cost effective way of getting the fuel system straightened out.

Very cool. I have a 99 TA that I want to make a custom tank for. Can I just make a circle and have 4 clamps around the Sides to hold it down and use a rubber seal? That looks like what you've done.

One other separate question. What is the smallest tank size you would use?

Stock is 17 gal. I'm thinking I can go 10-12 gal as I don't drive long distances.
