I ran across this the other day trying to figure out my 2 pin alternator from a 2010 Camaro that went into my 69 Camaro. A 2 pin DR44 style alternator is typically controlled by the computer using PMW. You can change the regulator to a self exciting AD233 style and use a holley pigtail with a resistor already installed. just tap the holley pigtail to a keyed 12v source.

without plugging in the dr44 style alternator, it will only produce 13.2V. with the self exciting regulator, it will generate the normal 14.6.

So I hate to bring this back up, but I am still somewhat confused on the wiring for the alternator for the 5.3 swap. I have a 1984 Chevy K10 and swapping in a 2000 5.3. Based on the schematics in this thread, I should wire up the brown wire to the original truck. I have the original truck wiring figured out with 2 wires that were to the original alternator. One brown ,and I think the other is black. So the wire in the original harness for the 5.3 is a brown wire that is pinned to the computer. I left it pinned to the computer at this point, but do I need to remove from the computer and connect to the truck wire, or leave in the computer and tap into it for the truck. This is the last wire that I need to finalize this portion of the swap.
Thanks.

I have looked researched and still unsure...Ls harness has brown/ grey wires I want to slice in my sflp connector for my older style alternator. So the brown will go to the s with the resistor and the grey will go to l with a dummy light or resistor.is that correct ? I been searching for hours . It's my first swap and I don't want let the smoke out of anything.

I have run into a bit of an issue with my LS swap.
The engine and ECU and wiring harness are for a 2000 Z28

For the swap I utilized the GM Performance accessory drive kit which utilizes the 2007 Cadillac CTS-V alternator.
I have not been able to get the alternator to charge with that setup, presumably because the Cadillac alternator appears to utilize 3 pins while the Camaro only utilizes 2 pins.
As a short term fix I rigged the Camaro alternator to the engine with some spacers but would prefer to figure out how to make the CTS-V alternator to charge correctly.
Any help would be appreciated.
