If its shooting gas out the carb, sounds like the floats are too high, etc. If it idles, it doesnt really sound like its an electrical issue.

So I do not kow how you save money with a carb setup. Now that you have it take it to a good shop (someone who races maybe). Let a pro set it up unless you have years of experience setting up a carb.
Truely it depends...how you purchase your motor. I got a LONG block and coils with F-body accessories. To purchase the intake, throttle body, MAF, air intake, fuel injectors, rail, etc... computer and high pressure fuel system was all extra cost stuff... even used I would be out about 1000-1500 more dollars. I had a Holley carb and purchase a Holley E fuel pump 100.00 ... all I needed was manifold and MSD setup. $700.00 I was done !!

Set up was alot easier than retro fitting computer and fuel system.

Update
Got it it fixed! A guy I talked to on the phone who has a 6.0 in his iroc figured this one out....He posts on here as well... I had taken my coil packs off the brackets so i could paint them...Well the driver side was wired backwards!!!! Number one was actually number 7, and the other two were wrong....No wonder it popped and acted crazy, everything is great now...Just thought I would chime in...

thanks for posting, i am getting ready to fire mine in a couple weeks, and was watching this, i figured some kind of cross firing or something, so i am going to double ck everything-i know my carb is good, as i ran it on my procharged B/B, so it should be ok for a fire up on this deal (carb'ed, procharged, ls style motor)
so far, reading these posts, i have to make sure all coils are wired correct to the cyls, the motor spins fast enough to fire the plugs, and the oil pump will prime and produce oil pressure-lol
and i wanted a gen 3 motor in my chevelle!
