Default s&p headers in an a body w/4l80e

i had ordered some s & p headers for my 6.0 in a 69 chevelle body, and i was going to use a 4l80e trans (because i have one)but heads up to the guy from s & p, he called me and said the headers wont fit, because of the ears on the trans, they were designed for 4l60/65e's, or 6 spd's with the rounded bellhousings-i asked him about cutting the ears off the trans, but apparently i would have to cut a lot off, so im gonna step back and take another look-i would have to change motormounts for the hookers to fit-i had thought about using a 4l65e anyway, its just that i had the 4l80e, and the 65e is about $2k-man, nothing cheap about an ls in a diff body
maybe i'll swap sides with the truck manifolds, weld up pipes for a single turbo, run a blow thru carb setup, etc, etc-lol
that 489 w/nos looking better all the time

For about half of your new trans cost you could have custom headers made.....

very interesting... i just recieved my headers from s&p and also told them it was a 4l80 ,they never said there would be a conflict but yes ,on my drivers side ( the headers clear) it seems the collector is about 1/4 to 3/8 inch off, hitting that outermost part of the trans, not a big deal i think .i didnt try it with the cover on the trans . also the flange on my header is higher and further out from the trans than ryanvv355's .and there is only about a 1/2'' from the other side of the flange to the chassis. my chevelle is a 67 i dont know if that makes a difference. ill try to get some pics over the weekend. Hey guys I went outside and looked at my engine on the stand and trans on the ground, and then took some measurements, they look like they will go together, with some trimming like the pics i posted above. From the looks of the inspection cover mounting flange on the trans, it looks like you can take a healthy chunk of it off and still have a good mounting surface for the cover. At this point I would say it is not a big problem, however that is just me eyeballing it, its not together and in the car yet.
