Default LS-s10 drum vs. disc brake upgrade.

Ls Powered daily driver. With the stock rear brakes and upgraded twin piston blazer fronts it will put your head through the windshield wo any problems. The truck is not autocrossed or 1/4 miled. Is it worth the five or six bens to upgrade to disc brakes in the rear. Would braking performance in a full on emergency situation at 80+MPH justify the swap. I have had disc brake rears from an s series in my monte and several others because the oem brake performance was subpar by far and the swap helped greatly. But IMHO I swear this little trucks stops just as good as any of the rear disc setups did. Give some ideas and reasons to chew on. Thanks

I say y not put them on. I was putting some on my s10 but they were fbody brakes. the only problem im having is hooking the ebrake cables up. guess i should get some off a blazer so everything works right.

Honestly on these trucks...I think its more for the looks of things to do a rear disc brake swap. The rear brakes really only help in straight line stability in braking...and virtually shut off if you EVER start to lock them up. So i dont see any need in upgrading. As far as the 80+mph freakish fast stop. Well the ABS (If you kept it) would surely kick out the rear brakes anyways. If you have RWAL its even worse...forget about it. Just make sure your drums are in good shape...good clean everything under the drum...and I think you will stop just as good. NOW if you are pulling a trailer a bunch...I will say get the disc brakes...cause the extra weight over the rear will tend to make the rear brakes worth A HELLA lot more. But if not...dont spend the money IMHO.

That is pretty much what I was hoping to hear. I am retaining the abs and everything is in perfect shape on the rear. The old man who had it before me had brand new gm shoes, wheel cylinders, drums and all the hardware replaced. The new parts have less than 5k on them from the receipt he showed me. On the flip side the only thing a dropped stepside is going to haul is *** definitely not a trailer, I have a fullsize for that.

Rear disks on a vehicle with no weight on top of them is pretty useless. They'll just lock up faster.
