Default alternator hook up question

i have searched alot and i just want to get this straight. car is a 92 camaro and was a v8/auto. now has a 2002 LS1/t56 out of a TA. harness is a Painless. my factory 92 alternator plug has a red wire and a small brown wire. i know to do away with the red wire. from what all i have read, i can wire the brown wire to the red wire in the LS1 plug along with a 500 ohm resistor in line. is this correct? according to the wiring diagram, the brown wire is a ignition turn on wire in the 92 car. thanks

Ignition switch 12 volts to one side of a 470 ohm resistor; other side of resistor to terminal B of the regulator/alternator.

Hrmmmmmmm

I thought this was basically a stand alone deal

I did something similar to this in my LT1 swap a few years back.

You can wire the brown wire from your 92 camaro harness directly to the LS1 alt. The brown wire already has the needed resistance, either via a light in the dash if the car has idiot lights, or if the car has gauges theres a resistor buried somewhere in the dash.

I have had thoughts on this too for my '69.

As the wiringdiagrams for the LS1 (mine is a 2001) shows the red wire from the alternator is to some kind of charging control from the PCM.

I have the old brown wire that comes from my instrumentpanels batterylight. Is it OK to hook that one to the red wire on the alternator and skip the PCM connection?

You can just hook the red wire from the alt to the old brown wire that comes from your instrument panel battery light, however you may have to delete an alternator code from the PCM so it does not set a check engine light.
