It is my daily driver and weighs 2900lbs in full daily driver trim with 3/4 of a tank of gas. I haven't gotten it to a drag strip yet but I plan on doing so pretty soon, I'll let people know how it goes.

The headers were for a Camaro originally, the passenger side fit with absolutely no modifications, the drivers side had to be changed to fit around the steering column. As for gauges I'm running an AIM MXL dash with everything wired into it.

That would be awesome. I can see what it would cost to rent out the track where I work down in Cresson, it's a road course but I'm sure some people on here would be interested. I'll be on the road a lot starting in April but whenever I'm in town I'm more than willing to meet up, even if it's just a couple people.

How about an 82 Supra! Have it all done and put about 1000 miles on it before a teardown for cosmetic body work and interior. Hope to have it in new paint by March.

This site was a tremendous help with getting things figured out.

Killer. I am just remembering that about 5 years ago my Mom had a Celica around the same year as the original poster's car. Damn that would have made a cool assed project .

You just have way to much room in that engine bay. I would have killed for the option to run the radiator in the stock location.

RWDCelicadude,

The extra room in the engine bay is nice, but it is all between the crossmember and firewall! Allows the shifter to sit right in the stock location though. I did have to put the radiator right up against the back of support. If I did another Supra swap I would probably modify the pan and move the motor back about 1-2". GTO LH exhaust manifold would then not work so headers would be required. The way it is now the damper pulley is right where the stock one was so I am happy. I think the LS1 is quite a bit lighter than the 5MGE, but the T56 is about 40lbs heavier than the W58 so the weight distribution actually shifted a little to the rear.

There is nothing wrong with headers, I have Hookers made for a '01 Camaro and they work very well.

Have you weighed your car after the swap? I'd be curious to see what your's weighs because I gained 120lbs. Also, do you know how much a W58 weighs? I found online that the T56 weighs ~125lbs dry and the W58 weighs ~75bs, add in a couple pounds extra for the amount of fluid the T56 can take over the W58 and I can see a gain of ~55lbs.

Nothing wrong with headers like you say, I just wanted mine as quiet as possible.
Your trans info sounds about right. I was just estimating from memory. I will have to weigh the whole car after it goes back together after paint. My Supra definitely sits a bit higher in the front than it used to. Have to work on that!

GTO front sump pan for the MK2 with a little bit of trimming to fit, steering rack sits on the back of the front crossmember, no changes needed to it as the GTO pan fits over it nicely.

i still keep thinking a 5.3 is cheap to pick up and make a nice quick mk2 out of for a cheapish summer cruiser.

Default Another '85 GTS / LS1 swap - CONVERTIBLE

Hello All,

so glad I found this old thread on the Celica LS1 transplant. July 3rd, 2013 I picked up a 2000 model LS1 from a Camaro SS for my 1985 Celica Convertible swap. Hope i can count on this forum to see me through it.

I love the GTS droptop but the 22RE just aint getting it done. car is a blast to drive, with IRS and looks good too.

Will start the thread with photos later this week.
