Dot 4 fluid in brake MC too?

Dot 4 fluid in brake MC too?

The clutch master cylinder says "Dot 4 only". If I have the brakes drained, is it OK to use Dot 4 in the brakes too? I know you are not supposed to mix.

dot 4 is ok. rule is you can go up in dot rating as far as 4,but cant go down. for ex. if you have dot3 fluid you cant used dot2 but can use dot4

That makes sense. I am starting with a new master cylinder and new brake cylinders. I would assume that if the system was empty I could change. I have heard you should never mix. I just wanted to hear this from someone that new what they were talking about. Thanks
