Default Oil Pressure Point and Temp Sender and Gauge

There's a small cover or fitting attached to the oil pan just over the oil filter that is plugged. I'm considering adding an oil pressure sender or pressure line to verify my gauge once I hook my LS1 dash (and gauge) to the normal electrical oil pressure sender. Is this a good place to verify proper pressure? What was the origianl pupose of this fitting? By the way this is a 2002 Firebird LS1.
Also I saw an earlier post for a web page where I ordered a 12mm X 1.5 (M) to 1/8 NPT (F) fitting so I could use the rear-passenger side temp sender location, (again to validate my dash gauge). What wasn't mentioned was what Autometer (or other mfr) part number gauge and sender was used. Does anyone know the gauge and sender mfr and part number? Thanks in advance.

If you get a Electric Autometer gauge it comes with the sending unit to hook to the oil fitting and on the side of the block for coolant temp. I know that on 1998 camaro oil pressure sensors I believe that you can tap direstly off of the oil pressure sensor, other wise all the others will read wrong. And the coolant sensor will not hook up at all to the Autometer sensor.

It depends if you want the Ultra-lite, phantom or the original series, because the electric version should come in each one of these models.

That fitting is for the oil temp sensor on the vettes. I tapped it and placed an after-market temp sensor in there. It takes a1/8" npt tap very well. Make sure you remove it to drill and tap. For it is after the filter. The gasket is reusable. It is also a mounting point for an oil cooler on some truck installations. All the oil that goes to the engine goes through that cover.
