Default 5.3 bored to a 5.7

What do you think about this.. I want to do a LSX swap in my 240SX. LS1's are too much for me so thinking about the 5.3. Then later down the road boring it out to a 5.7 and later maybe a turbo or nos. The iron block should hold up better. Just looking for around 450ish N\A with it being bored out. Do you think this is possible? Just throwing ideas out there. Thanks for reading.

Why not just look for a 6.0l LQ4 or LQ9.. unless your looking for budget.. then the 5.3l will be cheaper to pickup.

+1 The 6.0L will be within a couple hundred bucks of a 5.3 and obviously give you even more displacement. That said, the 5.3 can put out some decent numbers.

You may find it difficult to get to 450whp N/A even with the 5.7 without spending some cheddar or going wild with the cam

If you dont care about the cars street manners.. 450whp is only a crazy cam and a fast intake away

yep budget. Otherwise I would just get a LS1. Still might just try and save for a LS1, trying to find out the potential of the 5.3L

My first turbo engine was a 5.3L bored .120 over. Came out to about 346cid with a stock crank. Worked pretty well.

Can someone post the link to the difference in physical blocks (sizes) please? Im just wondering what the difference is between the 4.8, 5.3, 5.7, and 6.0. I searched yesterday and found the specs on the 5.7 only.

I read yesterday that you can only bore the engines out .010 or so. Now seeing this post above makes me wonder.

The aluminum block has iron sleeves and can only be bored about .010". I'm not sure about the iron 5.3 block.

we did a 5.3 to 5.7 .120 about 4 years ago with LS1 guts, worked pretty good too- agreed that 6.0l would probably be better bang/buck

If you go with a 6.0 you can easily fit a pair of the cheap, stock L92 heads and with a little cam help you can get great numbers........very inexpensive numbers. Later when you are ready to add power, that can be done easily without re-doing the whole engine.

l92 heads are cheap but you'll end up with just as much into a head swap til you factor in all the other stuff such as intake and intake rocker's ect.. personally if you want the ls1 save for it or drop astock 5.3/4.8 into it til you can get one in it. however in my opinion the weight savings of a ls1 isn't worth the price of the motor.
