Motor Just recently got a 94 Caprice Classic, body and frame is junk, has a perfect motor and tranny in it, the motor is a LS 1 w/ automatic w/ overdrive, cast iron heads, and a funny looking tune port on it, with electric water pump. Behind the front pulley and dampener there is some type of distributor. I have been talking to people to see if I can re-alter this motor, and not lose the 300-350 horsepower. I would like to put a 4 barrel w/ distributor on this, don't really want to compromise the horsepower, does anybody know anything about this? What can I do to put this in my 51 Ford pickup? Can somebody please help me?

The motor you are describing is an LT1, not a LS1. The water pump is driven off the camshaft with a shaft that comes out of the timing cover. You can get aluminum intake manifolds for a 4 barrel carb from a couple of aftermarket sources, I think GM performance is one of them!! Hot rod or Car craft had a write up on them a few months ago and shpwed them to be pretty stout motors!!

LT1-LT4 Modifications
You might want to replace the Opti-Spark before it craps out on you, they aren't very reliable. A few other common mods are the LT4 head and cam upgrade, which a lot of people do but doesn't offer the greatest hp / dollar ratio, nitrous because LT1s have a rep for taking a lot, and headers, every LT1 sounds good with some exhaust work!
I wouldn't carb the motor if I were you, lots of people want to do it because LT1s are like old school small block chevys, but I wouldn't bother unless you live in a moderate climate, fuel consumption doesn't bother you, and you want the old look.
Anyway, the intake is $270 + shipping at Summit.
