Rebuilt T56 having reverse trouble!

Default Rebuilt T56 having reverse trouble!

Guys, if you recall we sent the trans to Amber to be rebuilt. It was having minor issues with popping out of reverse before we sent it in, and now it is really having problems with reverse. You cannot keep it in reverse, and after a bit of trying, it may eventually let you move the car a little. This is frustrating! Everything else shifts great, no problems in forward gears at all. We have the McLeod Slick-shift adapter on the trans. If you put the car in nuetral, let the clutch out, put the clutch in and shift first and then reverse, it isn't any better. It also isn't any more reliable when you put the car in reverse with the engine off and try it that way. I have been wondering about the reverse lock-out solenoid. What causes the computer to energize that guy? We are now wondering if it had ever been working before. It is tough to get into reverse, but it was before too, so we have to frame of reference on if this is the regular tough, or not. We have got to get this fixed, cannot drive in a car without a reliable reverse!!!!

Hi Aaron, Shannon, when I did my swap I didn't hook the reverse lockout and it was a pain to shift into reverse. The ECU disengages the solenoid below 5mph. If it is not hooked up right it will be in the engaged position by default.

To test it you can apply 12v to it and then try shift into reverse see if its any easier.

If its anything to do with the rebuild Im sure sixspeeds will take good care of ya

Well, the McLeod slick shift strikes again! Still needed more grinding to keep from hitting itself. Seems to shift and stay in reverse now!

Not for nothing, had to get a new input shaft, seals, and the input shaft bearing was iffy so all new bearings installed. The reverse slider was a bit worn. The input seal was really starting to leak pretty bad as well. We are happy with having the rebuild done, just pissed off at the poor quality of the McLeod slickshift adapter. It has been nothing but trouble from day one. Not a great design.
