In almost all cases when one refers to their car as a first gen, second gen, fourth gen, they are talking about a camaro. We have the tendency to forget that other cars have been made...

Guilty... its a Camaro. The motor that came out of it went into a first gen RX-7 that weighed 2540 with full interior

My best advice...put an LSX in it. My 74 Camaro weighed in at a stealthy 3280. It's not just the weight diff in the blocks( alum-steel) it's the accessories as well and the master cylinder(old school-heavy new vette mst cyl -about 1 lb), the brakes( my 14" rotored C6 Z06 brakes weighed the same as the factory tiny 10.8" brakes(36.5 lbs), battery in the trunk is a must( no weight diff but puts it where you need it), if you have A/C the new comp. wiegh 1/2 of what the old ones weigh. I didn't have A/C on mine that would've added close to 75-90 lbs. My 01 SS A4 weighed 3420 w/o spare and 1/4 tank.

3280 is really light for a sec gen., I'de be ok with that. Ive got a carbed 6.0 thats going in soon. I have taken the A/C stuff off, fiberglass hood, aluminum wheels... just the normal stuff. Didnt know if anybody had done anything else to shave some lbs.

I used a glasstek fiberglass front end and 4" hood on mine, and bonded it to the stock inner fender structures so I can retain the bolt on hood without pins.
It turned out pretty good.
I also removed the front bumper bar, unused bracketry, and the inner door beams.
Also I installed Qa1 coilovers which were much lighter than the stock springs.
After initial mock up with the iron block L92 and turbos, the front suspension was basically topped out.
I would have to say I pulled out at least 500lbs of weight, but this is a race car that will not see much street time besides an occasional weekend cruise.
I would not advise on removing the bumper bar and door beams on a daily driver without a roll cage.
My goal is to be at 3,000lbs with me in it, but I have not had it weighed yet.
There a few pics in the link in my sig.
Good luck!

X2 looks clean!
Ive been keeping an eye on your build camarols1, almost running? gunna be a beast
I thought about taking a whole saw to the front bumper rather than taking it off. This car will be driven on the street alot so...kind of a compromise.

Thanks!
It is getting close, maybe another month???
The hotside is fabbed up and needs to be finish welded and coated.
I am waiting on my intake/rails next week to finish the cold side.
I like your screen name, I commonly refer to my ride as an "OTC" build,
ie on-the-cheap.
Good luck with yours!

Save another 26 lbs off the front end of an RS: http://www.nastyz28.com/forum/showthread.php?t=121624
I am in the same boat as I really want to get the overall weight down to 3200 w/o having to strip the car apart so I am open to suggestions as well.
